We are SO close to Ending Polio

by admin on October 24, 2013

Camden Rotarians gathered in force to spread the world about Rotary’s efforts at Ending Polio for good. Oct. 24, is World End Polio day. In the 1980’s the world saw about 340,000 cases of Polio a year! and thanks to the efforts of Rotarians around the world, it was 223 cases in 2012. Only three countries remain, Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Did you know that Polio survivors make up the largest single disability group in Australia? Polio is a highly contagious viral infection that causes paralysis, breathing difficulties, and even death. It can leave a sufferer and survivor crippled for life. Yet a single vaccine can prevent this disease, and Rotary is just a few steps away from eradicating Polio completely from the world! Making it only the second ever disease to be completely eradicated after Small Pox.
